Vybz Kartel Walks Free: Dancehall Icon Celebrates Freedom with ‘Freedom Street’ Concert

Jamaican dancehall icon Vybz Kartel, born Adidja Palmer, was released from prison in July 2024 after serving 13 years for a murder conviction that was overturned due to juror misconduct.

Following his release, Kartel announced his highly anticipated return to the stage with the “Freedom Street” concert, held on New Year’s Eve at Kingston’s National Stadium.

The event marked Kartel’s first live performance in over a decade and featured a star-studded lineup, including performances by Popcaan, Spice, Bounty Killer, and international artists like Busta Rhymes and Shatta Wale.

The concert was likened to a Super Bowl halftime show, with Kartel promising an unforgettable experience for fans.

In addition to his return to the stage, Vybz Kartel’s album “Party with Me,” released in May 2024, has been nominated for Best Reggae Album at the 2025 Grammy Awards, highlighting his continued influence in the music industry.!
